HISTORIA DE
LOS ULTIMOS 30 AÑOS DE CAPICORB.
Christian de El Túnel explica su
historia.
(Antiguo
He escrito al ayuntamiento
2008." Felicidades
a Christian, María Rosa y a sus hijos.

CAPICORB IN THE PAST AND IN THE FUTURE
Christian from The Tunel tells his story:
In the Easter holidays of 1971, I travelled from Rosas
in the north of Spain as far as Denia, looking for a special building beside
the sea. I had 8 days to find it - a homestead or a large house for a
discotheque!
In Alcala, an estate agent took me to Capicorb, where
there were many old houses but all either small or expensive. In the end we
found a warehouse. It was unbelievable, attractive, very big and next to the
sea. The two storerooms had two different owners but in the end, with a
struggle, I bought them.
At Capicorb there was nothing. All the little houses
were abandoned. Nobody came. In the past, the folk in the cottages had a good
stretch of land in front, where they grew vegetables. There was a well. But in one terrible night, the sea swallowed
metres of it. The little community then was the church, the old look-out tower,
the warehouse, the customs house and the cottages. They celebrated popular
fiestas there. But, afraid of the ferocity of the sea, everyone had moved
inland. Between 1975 and 1980, the American at the tower paid for the first big
boulders, to try and protect the houses.
This unique place has a lot of history. 300 years ago,
there was a Customs House where people paid in order to store things like salt,
wine, wood, carobs, oil, honey and wax in the warehouse, before they were
exported by sea. This Customs House was destroyed by a plane in the Civil War.
I want The Tunel to become a Listed Building because it is unique. I've written
to the government at Alcala about this and I'm waiting to hear.
I see a great future for Capicorb. In my opinion, we
need these: A bridge across the River San Miguel. This will mean communication
with Alcossebre.
Good development at Capicorb, attractively done, with
small houses and gardens.
Better access roads and better beaches! A sea walkway
between The Tunel and Torrenostra… not like at Benidorm, but a concrete path in
a natural colour, with lights and seats and trees, like at Benicàssim.
Postscript: In April, The Tunel disco was voted
"The most charismatic disco in the Comunidad Valenciana, 2008." Congratulations to Christian and his family!
